What are Show/Performance Cards?
Getting points adds to the excitement of showing and to the value of your pony. At the end of the year when the annual points are added up the winners, down to sixth place, are announced at the Annual Awards Night and the results published.
Cards are issued to paid-up members of the Association for a fee of € 5.00 for the first two, and €2.50 per animal thereafter. All animals must be registered with the Welsh Pony & Cob Society in Wales in the current owner’s name. The Society accepts part-breds with a minimum of twelve and a half percent Welsh blood, so many show ponies are acceptable.
Points can be gained in any discipline: showing, jumping, driving, eventing, etc. The only exceptions are best turned-out and equitation. The cards are simple to fill in as you go, and must be returned before the end of September to Louise Brady (Secretary). A Performance Card is required to qualify for the Black & Amber and Shamrock Irish-bred Championships at the All Welsh Show July 25th, 2009.
There is an annual Irish Breeders award for the person who has bred the most animals with their prefix. Only if there is a tie are the total points taken into consideration. The Awards Night is usually held in November with a dinner, and guest speakers from the UK , so it ends the year on an entertaining note for all.
